19 September, San Jose arrival

Meet and Greet at airport. Transfer to our five-star hotel strategically located close to the cultural and entertainment center in the historic quarter of San José. Following an orientation meeting with your personal guide the balance of the day is for independent activities. Dinner and overnight at your San Jose hotel.

20 September, Sightseeing & visits around San Jose
After breakfast at hotel meet your guide in the hotel lobby for a morning wheeling/walking tour of downtown San Jose. San Jose's cosmopolitan concept is a mirror of the country's culture with excellent museums, historical buildings and industrial complexes from the past transformed into houses of art and science proudly displaying the heritage of the Costa Rican people.
The morning is devoted to casual sightseeing and browsing and with time permitting, make a visit to the National Museum (Museo Nacional), housed in the 114-year-old Bellavista Fortress. With one of the country's most active research facilities and educational programs, the National Museum is also one of the capital's architectural gems with its central courtyard, overlooking the Plaza de la Democracia, one of the most peaceful settings in the center of the crowded city.
Lunch at the INBIO Parque, followed by two-hour tour with an English speaking guide to learn about Costa Rica's efforts to create wildlife national parks and the search for new medicines, cosmetics, and agricultural products from the natural ecosystem.
In the 20-acre park visitors experience living samples of Costa Rica's native biodiversity and a genuine education about the tropical humid forest, the tropical dry forest and the Central Valley native forests of Costa Rica.

21 September, Sightseeing around San Jose
After breakfast at hotel meet your guide in the hotel lobby and begin driving tour through the fashionable areas of Rohmosser and Escazu concluding with a coffee tour and lunch at Café Britt. Here the guides are professional actors wearing traditional costumes who escort the visitors through the process of bean from planting to a cup of gourmet coffee. After lunch visit a private breeding center for macaws for an up close and personal hands on experience with macaws being bred for release into the wilds.

22 September, San Jose to La Selva Biological Reserve
After breakfast at hotel meet your guide in the hotel lobby and depart San Jose along the Brauillo Carrillo National Parkway to Puerto Viejo Sarapiqui and to La Selva Biological preserve. After lunch experience a two hour guided tour of this premontane wet forest with a naturalist guide. La Selva Research Station is an international biological preserve owned by a consortium of approximately 50 universities in the United States and Costa Rica (Organization for Tropical Studies). With its state-of-the-art laboratories, on-line geographic information system, extensive trails, and large forest reserve bordering Braulio Carrillo National Park, La Selva is one of the world's most important sites for tropical ecosystem research. Each year, more than 250 scientists from some 25 countries and thousands of international students come to La Selva to study tropical ecology. The species´ diversity here is spectacular, including more than 1,900 species of plants, 330 species of trees, 436 species of birds including toucans, parrots, trogons, and hummingbirds. There are also over 450 species of ants, countless monkeys and reptiles. Your overnight stay and meals are at the biological station within the rainforest.

23 September, La Selva Biological Reserve
After breakfast at La Selva in the company of active researchers, scientists and workers the morning is free to continue your naturalist studies inside the preserve. Additional activities in the afternoon can include visits outside the preserve to a spectacular insect museum and butterfly garden, the Centro Neotropico nature trail, and the Snake Garden museum. Lunch. Your overnight stay and meals are at the biological station within the rainforest.

24 September, La Selva to Arenal volcano
After breakfast at La Selva in the company of active researchers, scientists and workers drive to La Fortuna, high on the ridge facing Arenal volcano one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Sometimes Arenal erupts and on a clear night and it's possible to see breathtaking fiery explosions and red lava flowing from Arenal's picture perfect cone. Overnight at a local hotel near Arenal in the low danger area.

25 September, Arenal volcano sightseeing
After breakfast at the hotel the day is devoted to sightseeing in the area. Visit to La Fortuna town and shops; Fortuna waterfall and Lake Arenal or the thermal pools, falls and streams set in lush tropical rain forest garden (additional admission))

26 September Arenal volcano to Jaco Beach
After breakfast at the hotel depart the Arenal region to travel along the old ox cart road to Jaco beach. The highlights of the day are visits at the enchanting mountain villages of Zacero, Sarchi and Grecia. In addition to incredible  landscapes, rich  green coffee  plant terraces, pineapple  farms, smoking  volcanoes, winding  rivers, sugar  cane  plantations and picturesque  farmland the towns are renowned for artisan handicrafts including, elaborately  painted  bowls, natural  wood jewelry  boxes  and  mask  carvings. Overnight at a quiet, cozy, private hotel overlooking the nearby Pacific Ocean and Jaco Beach.

27 September, Jaco Beach
After breakfast at the hotel the day is free to explore Jaco where monkeys and toucans can be spotted as well as a large variety of other tropical birds. Optional attractions (admissions extra) in the area include the Aerial Tram Pacific, Carara Biological Reserve and the Jungle Crocodile Safari. Overnight at a quiet, cozy, private hotel overlooking the nearby Pacific Ocean and Jaco Beach.

28 September, Jaco Beach
After breakfast at the hotel the day is free to explore Jaco where monkeys and toucans can be spotted as well as a large variety of other tropical birds. Optional attractions (admissions extra) in the area include the Aerial Tram Pacific, Carara Biological Reserve and the Jungle Crocodile Safari. Overnight at a quiet, cozy, private hotel overlooking the nearby Pacific Ocean and Jaco Beach.

29 September, San Jose Departure
After breakfast at the hotel depart to the airport. (2 hours from our Jaco beach hotel. * Passengers must report to the airport 2 hours prior to flight departure.


Rates and Details

Costa Rica Eco-Adventure Rates:
- 2 passenger exclusive eco-adventure
$3,450.00 per person based on double occupancy

- 4 passenger eco-adventure
$2,250.00 per person based on double occupancy

Tour costs include:
Accessible vehicle and fuel costs. Services of a registered driver/guide. All accommodation on B&B basis, half board at LaSelva reserve. All entrance fees per itinerary. Porterages of luggage at accommodations. Luggage gratruities, Orientation briefing, maps and brochures of the area.

Tour costs so not include:
Round trip international airfare from the USA to Costa Rica, pre and post tour accommodations, drinks and certain meals not mentioned in the itinerary. Items of personal nature, postage, telephone calls, cellular calls. Meals and drinks not stated in itinerary. Changes to itinerary once tour is underway, where costs are incurred for the guests' own use/pleasure. Gratuity for any additional guides, your escort and drivers. Travel insurance.
